STOP PASTORAL ABUSE AT A GLANCE
Stop Pastoral Abuse knows that our strength lies not only in the words we stand by, but most importantly through the actions of our initiatives: exposing abusers, advocating for additional child protections, and bringing information that has been swept under the proverbial rug by the IFB Cult. Back in 2009, we realized that by working together we could overcome our challenges much more efficiently, and that is why we decided to launch Stop Pastoral Abuse.
Here at Stop Pastoral Abuse, we believe in the Truth that has been revealed to us through God's Word. We firmly reject the legalistic, anti-biblical views of the IFB church. While there are many good people in these types of churches and not every IFB church is part of this movement, the ideologies put forth are a petri dish for abuse. If you immediately say, "that would never happen in my church" or "my pastor is truly independent"? Those types of responses say you are part of the bigger problem.
When church leaders keep quiet, a perpetrator can escape detection until after the limitations period has run for criminal prosecution. This common historical pattern is even more reason IFB leaders should work to rid their ranks of predators by providing a trained review board for the independent assessment of abuse allegations and for record-keeping on the credibly accused.
"You are not what happened to you; you are what you make yourself to be."
